Tell us a bit about yourself

I am a full time mom, partner, and photographer.  I drink Starbucks lattes more often that I probably should.  I love a good chick flick. Christmas is my favourite time of the year.  I was born and raised in Etobicoke, completed a B.A. at the University of Windsor, and recently moved to Ajax.

How long have you been a photographer?

I’ve been in business for 4 years, but really fell in love with photography in high school.  It started out with photographing flowers and landscape images, and evolved into photographing the people around me.

Earlier this year, I took the plunge to pursue photography full time.  I have a natural-light home studio located in Ajax, and offer outdoor sessions within the Durham Region and GTA.

Describe your style?

My style can be described as fun, relaxed and natural.  I take my time to get to know your family, and what you want to achieve from your session.  Instead of asking your child to “say cheese”, I interact with your them so their true and natural emotions are expressed.

What area do you specialize in?

I primarily work with newborns and young children, as well as photographing maternity and family sessions.  I also book a limited number of weddings and events per year.

What is your can’t live without piece of photography equipment?

This definitely would be my 50mm f1.4 lens.  I would say it’s on my camera 95% of the time when I’m shooting.

What is one photography tip that you could give to the non-professional?

I often find that families will invest in a really great camera, but they end up just using AUTO mode.  There are so many great features on cameras – browse through the manual, play around with settings, and learn how to use it.

What do you love most about being a photographer?

There are so many elements that I love about being a photographer.  Spending my day with adorable newborns, seeing new parents stare in awe at this little person they created, watching families grow before my eyes.  Capturing these moments so parents and children can look back on them years to come is very rewarding.

Is there one thing that you would love our readers to know?

Investing in professional prints of your photo session is a must. Though the trend lately is all about digital images, having quality prints to hang on your wall, or to create an album with, should also be important. Printing your images at a big box store just doesn’t compare to the quality you receive by ordering through your professional photographer.  At pro labs, archival quality paper is used, so those images will still look great many years from now, when your grandchildren want to learn about their family.
